The Kirkcaldy Old Kirk Trust has been set up by a group of local people concerned to preserve the heritage of Kirkcaldy contained in the Old Kirk, after its closure as a place of worship by the Church of Scotland on 7th November 2010. The "B" listed church was put up for sale in August 2011 and Kirkcaldy Old Kirk Trust was successful in.

In 2011 Kirkcaldy Old Kirk Trust, formed from the local community, purchased it from the Church of Scotland. The 15th century 7 metre square tower is the oldest part of the church, part of the Corpus of Mediaeval Churches in Fife, of middle or second pointed period, of rough ashlar sandstone blocks divided in two stages by a slight string.

Kirkcaldy Old Kirk is the site of the first Christian worship in Kirkcaldy after the Celtic missionaries brought the faith here in the 5th century. The first written record of the Kirk is in 1244 when Bishop de Bernham of St Andrews consecrated the building to St. Patrick and St. Brisse (St. Bryce). The ancient tower dates from the 15th century.

Kirkcaldy Old Kirk is a major example of a surviving pre-reformation tower, with fabric dating to the 15th century. The 1807 addition to the tower is a good example of the re-use of older ecclesiastical buildings during this period, with other similar examples at Inverkeithing and Burntisland parish churches (see separate listings).
